At Westchester Yoga Arts we want yoga to be accessible. Far too many people on the quest to lose weight and/or to get back in shape are intimidated when they walk into a yoga class at a gym or elsewhere. Our Yoga classes in New Rochelle were created to resolve this conflict so that more people can discover the incredible benefits of yoga and feel good about themselves too.

A gentler, slower-paced practice for people of all sizes, ages and fitness levels. Have you heard somewhere that even people in hospitals do yoga? This is true! If they can, so can YOU! Our Gentle Yoga is for you! In Gentle Yoga, our teachers incorporate pranayama (breath), gentle asanas (poses) and meditation in every class.
Gentle Yoga Focuses On:
Advising students to move gently through and within poses.
Incorporating spinal stabilization exercises in every class.
Featuring poses that are comfortable and steady.
Encouraging participants to rest whenever needed.
Making students aware of when to use a chair or wall.
A Vinyasa class, focusing on building cardio and muscular strength. This sweat-inducing practice also focuses on flexibility. Move in and out, deeper into the poses with the rhythm of the breath. End in a blissful deep relaxation.
Yoga for a Healthy Back focuses on ways to improve your overall spinal health, while safely practicing yoga. The class raises postural awareness, increases range of motion and releases tension through the breath and soft tissue techniques and core strengthening. All keys to a healthier back!
Yoga for a Healthy Back is offered Monday and Thursday at 9:30 AND Wednesday at 5:15.
Starting yoga? This is a great place to start the class combines movement with stillness. The teacher is open to questions, makes abundant use of props and makes the class fun. Learn a modified version of the Sun Salutations, standing poses then the rest of the class is for the most part on the floor for hip openers, twists and forward bends.
Is an open level class, for all levels of students. The class is in the order of the chakras starting with warm ups then standing poses and travels up through balancing, back-bends, hip openers, forward bends and an option for inversions or not.
We have two astanga inspired classes. Friday morning is closest to a traditional astanga class with the exception that there is instruction and modifications are offered as needed. We also have a growing Kettle Bell/ Astanga class to build muscle mass safely
If you are starting out, the best classes to start off with are Yoga 4 Everybody (Tues 9.30a), Candlelight Yoga 8p Fridays Gentle Yoga (Saturdays 11a) beware the Tuesday and Thursday "Gentle Yoga with a Twist" is NOT a true gentle class.
We now offer Ashtanga Inspired Yoga which has less instruction, a cardio intense class the idea of less instruction is to create a moving meditation out of the class.
Power Yoga classes invite the students to play with arm balances, sweat and increase cardio and muscular strength. Core Abs classes focus on toning the abs. Rise and Shine Yoga classes are a mix of both!!
This is by far the best yoga studio around!!! The instructors are all friendly and treat you a like a person and take a personal interest in your yoga journey. I've learned so much about and about life in general from each instructor and have built relationships with them as well. When you attend class you are not just a participant, but an actual member of class. They also offer other classes including belly dancing and one of the best Zumba classes around!!! I look forward to continuing my journey with this studio!!! I highly recommend joining!!!
From the moment I walked into the studio I felt at peace. The welcoming staff even stated "welcome home!" What a way to begin my first experience with yoga! I joined that day after my first class: candlelit yoga! So calming and relaxing yet challenging in its own way! After one week of yoga I feel stronger and much more relaxed! I would recommend this to anyone and cannot wait to go tomorrow!!!!
It's a place you can go to without stress. Just relax enjoy the direction of the great teachers and come out feeling like a new person. I want all to know that it has helped me get thru my back surgery and help me move like I did before. Thanks to all the teachers especially Faith Daniels for her great back classes. Lv them
I've been going to WYA since January. It's become my safe haven. Not only have I enjoyed the classes--I take everything from gentle yoga to the more rigorous flow classes--but the studio also just has a lovely energy about it. It's one of those intangible things you can feel when you walk into the lobby. No matter my state when I walk in, my inner state is always vastly improved by the time I leave.
I have an unlimited all class access pass from Westchester Yoga Arts and it is the best. Whenever I have a stressful day or need a change, I am there, signing in a class. I’ve now done classes with all the teachers, and done yoga, zumba and belly dance. It feels good knowing that I can get a spiritual detox through yoga whenever I want to. It is complete mind and body nourishment. Thumbs up.
